Senior Accountant

Job Description
This newly-created position plays an important role in the continued development
of the accounting organization. The Senior Accountant position interfaces
with Accela’s employees and management at multiple locations. The
position also interacts with Accela’s vendors, customers, state
and federal tax agencies, external auditors and tax accountants.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
• Assist in the calculation of quarterly sales commissions
in accordance with sales compensation plans. Record monthly
and quarterly commission accruals. Prepare commission statements that
accompany payments to salespeople. Maintain reconciliation
of accrued / prepaid commissions.
• Day-to-day general ledger accounting. Analyze/reconcile complex
accounting records and transactions. Produce/review journal
entries, schedules and reports.
• Participate in the monthly close process.
• Develop and process financial reports, including monthly preliminary
expense reporting to managers.
• Prepare annual property tax returns.
• Work with accounting team on process improvements; document accounting
processes. Support efforts to develop, document and test internal
controls.
• Work with others in the Accounting department to ensure that the
accounting treatment of transactions is appropriate and conforms
to GAAP.
• Provide support with annual audits, quarterly reviews and tax
returns.
• Maintain filing in areas of responsibility.
• Other tasks and projects assigned on an ad hoc basis.
Requirements
• At least 5 years relevant accounting experience preferably
in the enterprise software industry. Exposure to professional
services organizations and accounting is definitely a plus.
• Knowledge of GAAP.
• Solid analytical, systems and process skills. Strong communication,
interpersonal and presentation skills.
• High level of initiative and ability to meet deadlines. Positive
“can do” attitude.
• Able to adapt to change, meet high standards and manage multiple
tasks simultaneously.
• Strong MS Office skills (Excel). Intermediate to advanced level
in Excel is a must.
• Experience using Great Plains or similar software. Experience
with Financial Report writing applications such as FRX and
Crystal is a plus.
• Four-year degree in Accounting is required. CPA preferred.
