Allen County, Indiana Awards Accela $1.3M Contract to Streamline Quality of Life Services for Citizens

Web-based application will consolidate multiple databases and improve efficiencies in four departments

Allen County, Ind. (January 22, 2008) Allen County, Indiana has selected Accela Automation® from Accela, Inc. to support its goals to implement comprehensive improvements in its planning, permitting, licensing, and inspection enforcement processes.

The County’s Health, Safety & Environmental, Planning Services, and Building departments will utilize the more user-friendly, Web-based system to track and manage a wide range of land-use activities, including those related to enforcement of public health laws, ordinances, and regulations. Because Accela Automation enables consolidation of multiple databases into one centralized database, users in those departments will be able to streamline processes and improve efficiencies in delivering critical services to citizens.

“We are very excited at the prospect of putting new technology to work in serving our community,” said Allen County IT Director Ed Steenman. “Staff will certainly enjoy the benefits, but the public will be the real winners as we raise the level of service and protection we can provide.”

Allen County also selected Accela’s mobile government software application, Accela Wireless™, to empower inspection staff to work more efficiently from the field. Optimized for Intel Centrino® Mobile Technology, Accela Wireless is compatible with PDAs, laptops, and Tablet PCs running on the Microsoft Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems.

“Accela welcomes Allen County as a new customer and salutes their commitment to high standards of professional service to their residents,” said Maury Blackman, Accela president and CEO. “We look forward to providing the County with the very best technology and services available to meet their important citizen-focused objectives.”
