New Accela Automation Release Supports Next Generation Customer Service

New features in Accela e-government applications include self-service, mobility, and user experience enhancements

San Ramon, Calif. (July 29, 2008) Accela, Inc., the leading provider of government automation software solutions that support agencies in delivering services to the public, announced today the most extensive release to-date of its signature Web-based application, Accela Automation®. The release of version 6.6 includes over 85 strategic enhancements that empower agencies to operate more efficiently so they can raise customer service levels and provide citizens and the business community easy access to services via the Internet.

Enhancements in this release support existing Accela Automation features with robust new functionality that enables agencies to further streamline permitting, licensing, inspection, and asset management processes.
Key new features expand self-service capabilities for public users, leverage mobile GIS and mobile citizen access for contractors and staff working in the field, and improve the user experience with login screens that are easier to use and deliver quicker, more accurate results.

In addition, new security measures have been deployed with this release to comply with Payment Card Industry (PCI) best practices to protect consumer credit information from fraud, hackers, or other security vulnerabilities and threats.

“Accela is committed to empowering government to deliver next generation customer service that keeps pace with the demands of an increasingly Internet-savvy public,” states Maury Blackman, Accela president and CEO. “Application enhancements that support self-service and mobility, improve the way users interact with Web technology, and that make government services more accessible, responsive, and convenient continues to drive our product development focus.”

In conjunction with the Accela Automation release, enhancements to Accela’s add-on products – which expand the processing capabilities of the backend system – were released, incorporating significant new functionality. These products include:

Accela Citizen Access™ provides real-time, direct access via the Internet to agency permit and land management activities. Online permit applications can be configured to allow citizens and businesses access to apply and pay for permits, schedule inspections, check the status of a permit or inspection, or print an approved permit directly from the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Accela GIS™ seamlessly integrates with Accela Automation to provide powerful real-time visual analysis to enhance land use, zoning, and infrastructure data. It allows creation of multiple map layers, automated map analysis, parcel and asset inventory management, direct editing of GIS data or files, and auto-distribution of information to mailing lists. It is built on the ArcIMS™ platform by ESRI®.

Accela Wireless™ is a mobile government software application that allows government staff to perform their jobs from the field for inspections, code enforcement, work orders, and service requests. Optimized for Intel Centrino® Mobile Technology, Accela Wireless is compatible with PDAs, laptops, and Tablet PCs running on the Microsoft Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems.

Accela IVR
™ provides 24-hour voice-recognition access to permit and inspection services, enabling staff and citizens to request, check, and verify permit applications and inspections from a touch-tone phone at any time.
