Southlake, Texas Launches Accela Solution to Improve Delivery of Services to Citizens

Web-based asset management solution enables faster, more accurate response to customers

Southlake, Texas (August 7, 2008) Southlake, Texas announced its launch of Accela Asset Management™ from Accela, Inc. to provide its Public Works, Fleet Services, Parks and Recreation, and Facilities Maintenance departments with an integrated e-government solution for tracking and managing city assets and resources and allowing the city to be more responsive to its citizens.

The Web-based solution can be applied to an unlimited number and type of assets and is being utilized in Southlake to support asset inventories, maintenance, requests for service, and parts inventory. Staff now has the ability to access and share information from a centralized database of asset information, improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of key functions and operations and enabling faster and more accurate response to customer service requests.

“With Accela’s asset management system, the City of Southlake’s Public Works Department is operating more efficiently and with ‘greener’ sensibilities,” said Robert Price, Southlake’s director of Public Works. “If a resident has a comment or concern, resolution is just a click away and the end result means less paperwork for staff, better time management and ultimately better customer service.”

Additional Accela solutions slated for launch in Southlake in the coming months include:

Accela Land Management™ speeds up the process of getting from application to occupancy by automating land use and community development activities related to permitting, building safety, zoning, project plans, code enforcement, and inspections, investigations, and reviews.

Accela Wireless™ is a mobile government software application that allows government staff to perform their jobs from the field for inspections, code enforcement, work orders, and service requests. Optimized for Intel Centrino® Mobile Technology, Accela Wireless is compatible with PDAs, laptops, and Tablet PCs running on the Microsoft Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems.

Accela Citizen Access™ provides real-time, direct access via the Internet to agency permit and land management activities. Online permit applications can be configured to allow citizens and businesses access to apply and pay for permits, schedule inspections, check the status of a permit or inspection, or print an approved permit directly from the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Southlake’s launch of our Web-based asset management solution signals great things ahead for the people who live and do business there,” said Maury Blackman, Accela president and CEO. “We look forward to continuing to support the city as it deploys additional Accela solutions and becomes a benchmark for other communities looking for faster and more effective ways to serve the public.”
