Accela Continues National Cannabis Regulation Leadership with Licensing Solution Launch in California

Technology implementation provides agile solution for emerging cannabis market

SAN RAMON, Calif. – January 11, 2018 – Accela, the leading provider of cloud-based productivity solutions for government, today announced the on-time and successful launch of the California cannabis licensing platform that was built on Accela’s software. In response to voter mandate, and on the heels of a successful cannabis solution launch in Denver, Accela’s technology was selected by the State of California in February 2017 to deliver a proven licensing solution in less than one year. The California go-live demonstrates Accela’s ability to provide robust, agile SaaS solutions for emerging markets.

“The State of California witnessed how our powerful licensing solution helped the City and County of Denver make cannabis licensing a reality, and we were thrilled to be selected by the State of California to make their cannabis go-live a success as well,” said Ed Daihl, Chief Executive Officer of Accela. “We look forward to working with governments of all sizes to solve regulatory and licensing challenges.”

After California voters approved Proposition 64, which legalized the sale and distribution of cannabis in the state, on November 8, 2016, government regulators faced a daunting task to build a framework to transform an unregulated market into a legal market in just one year. With an estimated $5 billion market and $1 billion in local and state tax revenue at stake, the state turned to trusted experts to make it happen.

Accela worked closely with the dedicated staffs of the California Department of Consumer Affairs, California Department of Food and Agriculture, and California Bureau of Cannabis Control to deliver a solution on time. On December 8, 2017, the California Bureau of Cannabis Control began accepting applications from businesses that wanted to operate in the legal cannabis industry next year, and only a week later the state issued 20 temporary licenses. The licenses and the businesses that they authorize are helping to empower entrepreneurs and grow the local, state and national economy.

The Accela SaaS cannabis solution implementation and configuration was led by Visionary Integration Professionals.

“We are excited to be supporting the State of California in this transition and working with Accela to implement a licensing solution that can keep pace with the rapidly changing medical and recreational cannabis regulations,” said Jonna Ward, Chief Executive Officer of Visionary Integration Professionals.
