Accela Expands State of Montana Presence with New Contract for Licensing Solutions

Accela software’s Business Express capability to augment statewide health, occupational and professional licensing processes

HELENA, Mont., March 31, 2010 – In an expansion of its growing relationship with the State of Montana, Accela, Inc., the leading provider of Web-based software that makes government services available 24/7, today announced that it will provide advanced licensing solutions to two bureaus within the Montana Department of Labor & Industry’s Business Standards Division (BSD).  The bureaus will deploy Accela Automation® software to streamline licensing and inspections for healthcare and other professions across the state. 

Combined, the Business & Occupational Licensing Bureau and the Health Care Licensing Bureau regulate nearly 40 licensing boards and programs, and license close to 100 professions.  The bureaus are chartered with protecting public health, safety and welfare, and with upholding standards of excellence for regulated professions.  Faced with a growing Montana population approaching 1 million, both bureaus needed new solutions to help them deliver on their commitment to process 80 percent of all new license applications within 14 days of receipt. 

The Accela Licensing & Case Management™ module of Accela Automation is a Business Express enabler, which automates licensing and regulatory programs (including business, health professions, liquor, and occupational and professional licenses), based on an agency’s unique regulations, requirements, and internal procedures.  Leveraging this functionality in Accela Automation will enable the bureaus to automate nearly all facets of their licensing operations – both for bureau workers and for Montana citizens.  Customers will be able to apply for and renew licenses online; while bureau staff will have the tools to track and report on cases using state-of-the-art field technology and GIS mapping. 

At the same time, field inspections and investigations will be enhanced through the use of Accela Mobile Office™, a new solution, announced early this year, which spurs faster turnaround time for traditional government counter services by bringing them directly into the community.  Accela Mobile Office extends the capabilities of Accela Automation for field-based inspections, work orders, and service requests – giving inspectors access to all the data, tools and maps used by back-office staff, in an easy-to-use interface.

The BSD’s new system is expected to go live in the first quarter of 2011.  Separately, Montana’s Building Codes Bureau continues to make progress toward its deployment of Accela Automation later this year.
