Accela Gains Momentum in Recreation and Resource Management
New Customers Include Virginia Department of Forestry, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and Massachusetts Executive Office for Energy and Environmental Affairs
SAN RAMON, Calif. – June 30, 2014 – Accela, the leading provider of civic engagement solutions for government, announced the addition of several new Recreation and Resource Management customers, growing the base of government agencies leveraging the Accela Civic Platform to help connect government to citizens, foster citizen engagement and build better communities.
The Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) is working with Accela to support the VDOF Store and related services by enabling seedling and merchandise sales and streamlining other agency processes. The VDOF has been growing seedlings for Virginia landowners for more than 90 years and today, residents can purchase a wide variety of species directly from the VDOF website. Citizens and businesses can now purchase products from the VDOF online 24 x 7 and take advantage of new capabilities. VDOF is provided a new solution that will help increase seedling sales and visibility, better manage inventory, and integrate with fulfillment and delivery tools. A second phase is slated for the second half of 2014 that will include restoration and maintenance program tools and capabilities to further streamline agency operations.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is leveraging the Civic Platform to streamline and automate daily operations such as licenses, permits and boat registrations. The solution enables the agency to provide entrance passes online and offers citizens the ability to go online to secure permits, licenses and applications for hunting and fishing, boating and other special use permits.
The Massachusetts Executive Office for Energy and Environmental Affairs is working with Accela to simplify the process for obtaining boat, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHV), and snowmobile registrations. The easy-to-use web interface enables citizens to apply for and renew motorboat, snowmobile or recreation vehicle registrations.
“We understand that government agencies of all sizes are looking to technology to help bridge the divide between agency and citizen,” said Maury Blackman, Accela President and CEO. “In the parks and recreation industry, the key to success is making it easier for citizens to experience and enjoy their natural resources. By streamlining key processes like accepting boat and vehicle permits and applications, facilitating transactions and managing key resources, we’ll help make government agencies run more efficiently while providing a higher level of customer service.”
