After the Storm: How New Orleans is Leveraging Technology for Response and Recovery

The New Orleans Department
of Safety and Permits uses Accela Automation®, a Web-
based enterprise application
for automating permitting, inspections, workflow, project management, plan review, code enforcement, and other critical functions. Since deploying the system, the Department has
had the application hosted off-site by Accela at a tier one data center.

Following Hurrican Katrina, Accela and the New Orleans Building and Safety Department quickly mobilized to begin disaster recovery efforts. The solution is part of a multiphase project to
facilitate recovery activities including

information gathering, mobile inspections of damaged buildings, reporting to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and dissemination of this information to citizens via the Web.

Watch how the City used Accela software to complete more than 125,000 building inspections in just ten weeks.
