EJ Whelan joined Berkshire Partners in 2005 and became a Managing Director in 2012. EJ’s primary Berkshire portfolio company involvement includes Access, a provider of records and information management services, as well as prior portfolio company experience for AmSafe, Mattress Firm, Melissa & Doug, Party City and Skillsoft. Prior to Berkshire, EJ worked in the private equity industry with Summit Partners and Charlesbank Capital Partners. He also served on the management team at Sterling Auto Body Centers, a former Berkshire portfolio company, and began his career at Bain & Co. as an Associate Consultant. EJ holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Jon Nuger joined Berkshire Partners in 2012 as a Vice President. Jon’s primary Berkshire portfolio company involvement includes Access, a provider of records and information management services, and Masergy, a global provider of innovative hybrid networking, managed security and cloud communications solutions. Representative prior portfolio company experience includes Melissa & Doug and SRS. Previous to Berkshire, Jon was an Associate at Golden Gate Capital, worked at a venture-backed data services company, and was an Associate Consultant at Bain & Co. Jon has an A.B. from Princeton University and a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Greg Pappas joined Berkshire Partners in 2010 as an Operating Partner of the Portfolio Support Group and became a Managing Director in 2013. Prior to Berkshire, Greg was a Senior Partner at The Parthenon Group where he managed its private equity practice and served as a member of the firm’s executive committee. Earlier in his career, Greg was with Deloitte’s audit and financial services group where he advised on mergers and acquisitions, as well as the organization of control, cost management and reporting systems.
Gary Kovacs is Accela’s Chief Executive Officer and has more than 25 years of enterprise software and mobile technology industry leadership and executive management experience. Prior to Accela, Gary served as CEO of AVG Technologies, CEO of Mozilla, and has held senior executive positions at SAP (Sybase), Adobe (Macromedia), Zi and IBM. Gary is a frequent public speaker and has delivered keynote addresses at TED, the World Economic Forum (Davos & Shenzen), Mobile World Congress, Clinton Global Initiative, F.ounders, All things Digital /Code/ Re/Code, Fortune Brainstorm, among many others. He is a board member for numerous mission-driven technology companies and not-for-profits including Make-A-Wish, Runway Capital, and serves on the advisory boards of Docusign and the University of Calgary.
Tyler Wick has over 18 years of private equity experience and has worked with dozens of privately held healthcare, software and information services companies over the course of his career. In addition to Accela, Tyler also serves on the Board of Directors of CitiXsys (retail management software) and alliantgroup, LP (specialty tax consulting services). Prior starting his private equity career in 1997, Tyler served in the investment banking division of Advest. Tyler graduated cum laude from Amherst College.
Tom Kuo joined Berkshire Partners in 2007 and became a Managing Director in 2016. Tom’s primary Berkshire portfolio company involvement includes Catalina, a provider of personalized media for consumer promotions and advertising, Masergy, a global provider of innovative hybrid networking, managed security and cloud communications solutions, and TransDigm, a leading global designer, producer and supplier of highly engineered aircraft components. Previous portfolio company involvement includes Electro-Motive Diesel, Husky and United BioSource. Before joining Berkshire, Tom worked several years in the private equity industry for companies including General Atlantic and Goldman, Sachs & Co. Tom received an A.B. from Harvard College and a M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Jon Nuger has significant experience investing and supporting companies in the software and technology-enabled services spaces in his role as Principal of Berkshire Partners. He also has extensive experience guiding investments and strategy in his prior experiences at Golden Gate Capital and Bain & Co. He also previously worked at Metaweb Technologies, a semantic intelligence company acquired by Google in 2010.
Khurram Mahmood spent much of his early career as a technology leader at Oracle and subsequently as an early employee at Workday. He has advised or co-founded startups across the tech landscape and currently serves as the CTO of Vineti, a software company serving the life sciences industry.
Randy Sloan has more than 30 years of business transformation and technology leadership experience working with multiple Fortune 500 brands to drive strategic business growth through enabling innovative technology. Randy is currently an Operating Advisor with Berkshire Partners and is the former CIO of Southwest Airlines. Prior to that Randy was the CIO for PepsiCo International.
Serge Massicotte has a successful track record with startups, large companies and public corporations. He has held senior management roles at Ivado Labs, JDA Software, Cloud9, Taleo Corporation and others. He is seasoned in software development, technology, SaaS, digital transformation and AI.
