At Accela’s recent meeting in San Antonio last week, the highlight of the week wasn’t just strategy sessions or roadmap discussions, it was the chance to make a tangible impact in the local community.
As part of our team-building activities, small groups were challenged to design, build, and race robots. The competition was lively, the engineering was creative, and the laughs were plenty, but the real win came at the end. Every robot we built, along with additional robot kits, was donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio.
Stories That Inspire Action
We were honored to be joined by Travis Pearson, CEO of the Ronald McDonald House San Antonio Chapter, who shared powerful, personal stories of the families they serve. He spoke about parents traveling from hours away to access life-saving care for their children, and how RMHC provides more than just a roof over their heads, it provides comfort, community, and hope during the toughest moments of their lives.
Hearing firsthand how RMHC creates a safe haven for families, offering warm meals, emotional support, and a sense of normalcy, brought our mission of community connection into sharper focus. Travis’s words reminded us that the impact of kindness often reaches much farther than we realize.
Why This Matters
In 2024 alone, RMHC San Antonio:
- Provided 14,500 overnight stays to families in need.
- Served 10,000+ meals to lighten the burden on parents and caregivers.
- Saved families over $2.1 million in lodging expenses so they could focus on what truly matters—being there for their child.
Our donation of robots and kits adds a spark of creativity, play, and learning for children and families during challenging times. It’s a small gesture we hope brings big smiles.
While our meeting was about aligning our goals for the year ahead, it was also about remembering why we do what we do, and finding ways to give back to the communities we serve. Partnering with RMHC San Antonio was a reminder that our work can extend far beyond technology, touching lives in meaningful and unexpected ways.
