San Diego, California, Selects Accela Civic Platform to Enhance Management and Visibility of Public Projects

Accela Cloud-Based Solutions to Help San Diego Maintain Smarter and Safer Streets, Improving Coordination and Information Sharing for Major Projects

Accela, the leading provider of civic engagement solutions, announced today during the 2015 Esri User Conference that the City of San Diego, California, has selected the Accela Civic Platform to upgrade its software system for coordinating projects and events. San Diego is replacing its legacy system and rolling out Accela Right of Way Management and its core software modules on the Civic Platform.

The Accela Civic Platform, Accela Right of Way Management and other solutions are on display this week at the San Diego Convention Center during the Esri User Conference, an annual gathering for the Geographic Information System (GIS) software market. A silver sponsor of this year’s event, Accela is located in booth #1501. The company is demonstrating the full Esri support and integration provided by all Accela products and mobile applications.

“We’re excited to help San Diego maintain its innovative culture by modernizing its project coordination and ability to inform citizens,” said Maury Blackman, Accela President and CEO. “We understand that citizens want to know what’s happening on their streets and in their community, and we look forward to working with San Diego to make this information easily available online.”

Known as America’s finest city, San Diego is the second-largest city in California and the eighth- largest in the United States, with a population of nearly 1.3 million. The City’s Department of Information Technology is committed to providing value through innovation to city departments and staff, and in turn to San Diego residents and businesses. Recognizing the need to upgrade its project coordination software as well as make information on major projects accessible to the public, the City decided to shift to Accela’s advanced and scalable cloud-based Right of Way Management solution.

The City of San Diego will implement the following Right of Way Management modules:

  • Utility Coordination: Enhancing the coordination of San Diego’s right of way activities in real time, minimizing conflicts and unnecessary street cuts while stretching budgets.
  • Events and Incidents: Enabling the City to plan its events and avoid conflicts with other planned activities and projects in the right of way.
  • Permitting: Upgrading its permitting process, eliminating duplicate data entry, facilitating a faster turnaround time, and detecting potential conflicts with other projects or permits.
  • Citizen’s View: Giving San Diego residents a user-friendly, interactive website displaying roadway construction, traffic impacts and community events on a map, calendar, timeline and more.
