Atlantic County, New Jersey Turns to Accela’s Environmental Health Software

Accela to help county improve transparency, streamline workflows for the benefit of division staff, residents and businesses

San Ramon, Calif. (February 28, 2022)Accela®, the trusted provider of cloud solutions for government, today announced that the Atlantic County Division of Public Health authorized a project to quickly transition from EnvisionConnect to Accela’s Civic Application for Environmental Health, Accela’s cloud-based permitting, inspection, and billing system for environmental health departments.

Accela, the Atlantic County EH team, and Accela certified partner [s]Cube are migrating current and historical data, modernizing workflows, and publishing a public-facing web portal for operators to conveniently renew, apply, and manage their environmental health programs. The county will also move from local servers to Accela’s cloud-based platform, powered by Microsoft Azure, thus relieving division staff of backup, security configuration, and performance monitoring, and giving them more time for more complicated, higher priority work.

Atlantic County’s Environmental Health Division oversees the traditional environmental health programs (e.g., food surveillance, bathing places, and air sanitation) as well as some health programs not always delegated to local environmental health departments. These specialty programs include kennels, boilers, campgrounds, and landfills. The county also tracks employee time against a myriad of additional services which educate and protect the public’s health in the region.

“It’s really fun to see environmental health professionals begin to realize more and more aspirational projects. For example, a full-service public-facing portal is a game changer for operators and applicants to conveniently transact and pay fees on any connected device,” explained Accela’s General Manager for Environmental Health Darryl Booth. “The public too will be able to search and browse public information, including inspection results, which will increase transparency and community engagement.”
