Govtech leader’s Environmental Health solution will support San Bernardino County’s Environmental Health Services and Fire Protection District (CUPA)
San Ramon, Calif. (May 12, 2022) — San Bernardino, California’s largest county, selected Accela to deliver software and services to its Environmental Health Services and Fire Protection District (CUPA). This investment by the county board of supervisors and IT department sets a trajectory to meet and transform the regulatory services provided to businesses and residents. The project also features benefits which will maintain the county’s ability to continue services during an emergency.
San Bernardino County Environmental Health Services protects the public health in the built and natural environments by permitting and inspecting restaurants, public pools, body art businesses, housing and camps, septic and water well, medical waste, drinking water and more. The division is award-winning in its innovation and customer service.
San Bernardino County’s Fire Protection District serves as a Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) and bears the significant responsibility for regulating establishments which, by virtue of their operations, maintain, generate, or recycle hazardous materials. CUPA personnel make a local and a statewide impact as regulators, educators, and advocates for right-minded environmental policy.
“The Environmental Health Services and Fire Protection District (CUPA) missions are different and distinct, yet they together maintain important relationships with regulated businesses in the county,” said Darryl Booth, Accela’s general manager for environmental health. “The two departments are now alongside an even larger Accela code enforcement, land use and public works ecosystem, which sets an opportunity for cross-department tasks and research capability. Once these pieces are in place, the county will become even more strategic and efficient.”
